Music Sector Development Officer for Northern Ontario
Melanie St-Pierre, musician, visual artist, and music industry smart aleck is Northern Ontario’s Music Sector Development Officer. As the frontwoman and singer-songwriter for the critically acclaimed band Casper Skulls, she was nominated for a SOCAN Songwriting Prize and hailed by the likes of Billboard, NPR, MTV, SPIN, Stereogum, and more. In 2015 Melanie graduated with honors from Sheridan College’s Visual Creative Arts program where she received the Works of Paper Award of Excellence. Masterfully juggling gigs opening for Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth, Kathleen Hannah from Bikini Kill, PUP, Wolf Parade, and more as well as being commissioned for artwork by beloved curiosity bender Radiolab Podcast from NYC Studios, she then became the Artistic Director for Precision Record Pressing before settling down in her hometown of Sudbury. Now with Cultural Industries Ontario North (CION), Melanie helps foster the regional music industry by supporting up-and-coming artists. Never missing a beat, Melanie’s creativity and experiences continue to drive a personal philosophy: expression and art made for an interesting, and better, world.
